Level 100 sessions are designed to give an overview or introduction to AWS services. These sessions focus on features, functions, and benefits, with content that highlights basic use cases and showcases how a service or feature can be used in your applications and how it can be integrated with other services.
Intermediate | 200 level
Level 200 sessions assume a general knowledge of the topic and provide a technical deeper dive into a service or use case. This content typically includes architecture, integration, and configuration of common use cases. Level 200 content provides tips and tricks, best practices, or high-level troubleshooting guidance.
Advanced | 300 level
Level 300 sessions assume proficiency of the topic and typically cover in-depth architecture, development, deployment and migration examples. Level 300 content drills into how a service can be used and dives deep into customer use cases. Level 300 content covers complex design, development, and deployment best practices that address the needs of experienced AWS users.
Expert | 400 level
Level 400 sessions are for advanced or expert AWS customers. These sessions are geared toward super-skilled users who want to learn the deep inner workings of AWS services. Level 400 content demonstrates complex design, development, and deployment strategies to help the audience dive deep into the topic.
Session types
Bootcamp (duration varies)
Develop your cloud skills and learn new ways to build with AWS services. These full-day bootcamps offer accelerated, instructor-led training sessions focused on practical skills. Self-paced labs are included so that you can practice in a live AWS environment.
Breakout sessions (60 minutes)
Lecture-style sessions that feature one or more speakers presenting on an educational topic. Lectures are presented in either standard breakout rooms or on a silent session stage. Breakout sessions in standard rooms include an optional group Q&A at the end as time allows.
Builders' sessions (60 minutes)
Small-group sessions led by one AWS expert providing interactive learning on how to build on AWS. Each builders’ session begins with a short explanation or demonstration of what attendees are building. There is no formal presentation; once the demonstration is complete, attendees use their own laptops to experiment and build with guidance from the AWS expert. You must bring your own laptop to participate in this session.*
Chalk talks (60 minutes)
A highly interactive content format. Chalk talks begin with a short lecture delivered by an AWS expert, followed by an open-format Q&A session using a whiteboard to encourage discussion from attendees. Chalk talks foster technical discussions about real-world architecture challenges.
Code talks (60 minutes)
Engaging, code-focused sessions with a small audience. AWS experts lead an interactive discussion featuring live coding and/or code samples as they explain the “why” behind AWS solutions. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and follow along.
Keynotes (duration varies)
Our five keynotes at re:Invent set the tone for all sessions, featuring new launches, demos, technical deep dives, and behind-the-scenes insights from our most senior leaders, including our CEO. Integral to these keynotes are customer guest speakers who will share their stories about how they have reinvented with AWS.
Innovation talks (60 minutes)
Lecture-style sessions focused on innovation stories that address AWS customers’ most pressing business issues and opportunities. These sessions are livestreamed for virtual attendees.
Lightning talks (20 minutes)
Located in the Expo Hall, these 20-minute focused theater presentations are dedicated to either a specific customer story, service demo, or AWS Partner offering. Audience interaction (such as Q&A) may be limited.
Workshops (120 minutes)
Interactive sessions where attendees work in small groups to build a solution to a problem using AWS. Workshops encourage interaction and provide attendees with an opportunity to learn from and teach each other. You must bring your own laptop to participate in this session.*
Exam prep (90 minutes)
Prepare for an AWS Certification exam with this 90-minute, interactive study session. Review questions from the official practice question set and get your questions answered by the subject matter expert leading the study session.
Self-paced training (duration varies)
Take your AWS Cloud expertise to the next level with three self-paced, interactive learning options. Dive into AWS SimuLearn, generative AI–powered simulations to help grow your expertise in translating business problems into technical solutions. Practice with AWS Builder Labs, building solutions for common cloud scenarios in a live lab environment. Challenge yourself with AWS Jam Journeys, solving a series of challenges to expand your problem-solving skills. Whether you’re a senior technical professional or an organizational decision-maker, we have something for you! Registration is not required; come and go at your own pace.
Interactive training (duration varies)
Join an interactive training session with an expert AWS instructor who will guide you step by step through a real-world scenario, teaching you as you go. Some sessions require a laptop to participate; check the session description.
Silent sessions (60 minutes)
In silent sessions, multiple stages of presenters run concurrently. The audio for each session is broadcast to the audience via headphones that are color-coded to match the color of the stage for the corresponding presentation.
Spotlight labs (90 minutes)
An expert AWS instructor guides you step by step through a real-world scenario, teaching as you go.
*As part of this session, you must bring a laptop to participate, which will involve logging into an AWS account. In some sessions, you may be required to install software, such as an IDE. Please ensure that you have the necessary permissions on your machine, especially if this is an employer-provided machine. Additionally, please be aware that some network configurations such as firewalls, corporate VPNs, and proxies may result in you being unable to participate due to lack of access to the hands-on content. Please be prepared to troubleshoot and/or disable these items if required.
Session IDs and extensions
Each item in the AWS re:Invent catalog has a unique code assigned to it, which you can use to reference or search the item. These codes begin with a three-letter abbreviation, which designates the primary topic of the session, followed by a number ranging from 0 to 4, which designates the level (0, 100, 200, 300, 400). Additionally, some sessions have a session extension, which are 2 to 3 letter codes added after the numerical portion of a session ID that indicate a special status of a session, such as a repeated session, a sponsored session, or a sessions in a language other than English.

Favoriting catalog entries
Favoriting catalog entries adds sessions and activities you’re interested in to your favorites list. You can favorite multiple sessions or activities that occur at the same time as you plan out your schedule for re:Invent. Please note that favoriting a session is not the same as reserving a seat. In October, we will launch reserved seating functionality, which will allow you to hold a seat in sessions.
To favorite a session, select the heart next to the session ID, and the session will appear on your calendar.
Reserved seating and walk-up policy
Reserved seating is now open! Reserving a seat in a session guarantees that there is space for you in that session, as long as you arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of the session. Reserved seating accounts for some of the overall availability in the session. So if a session you want to attend no longer has seats available to reserve, you may still be able to attend by showing up early and joining the walk-up line.
Please note that you may not reserve seats in multiple sessions that occur at the same time & reserved seating will close 30 minutes prior to the start of any session using reserved seating. If you are unable to obtain a reserved seat for a session you are encouraged to join the walk up line.
10 minutes before the beginning of a session, all of the unclaimed reserved seats will be released to the walk-up line. This means that if you reserved a seat and do not arrive at the door at least 10 minutes before the start of the session, your seat will be released to allow for walk-up attendee participation. It is your responsibility to attend sessions that you have reserved in a timely manner or to release your seat so that others can reserve a spot.
Session queuing
Session queues open 1 hour prior to the published session start time. Reserved seats are seated first and then the remaining seats are opened to the walk-up line. Walk-up seating is managed on a first-come, first-seated basis. Any unclaimed reserved seats are released to the walk-up line 10 minutes prior to the session start time.
